Position:                Trainee Survey & CAD Technician

Based at:               Cardiff, CF24 2SA

Reporting to:        Mark Paton, Director

Start Date:             March 2019

Working as part of a growing design team, as a trainee CAD Technician you will be taught how to use AutoCAD software professionally and proficiently to the highest level to be able to produce electronic versions of technical drawings for Buildings Services MEP Consultants, Contractors and Sub-Contractors. You will also be trained to carry out building surveys for the purpose of producing floor plans for our clients and work as part of the survey team.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

To develop understanding and knowledge of AutoCAD, Autodesk and MS Office software.

To learn the creation, modification and publication of building services schematic and layout drawings to current OCS Ltd CAD standards.

To learn to create and manage project folders complete with Time Sheets and to update Time Sheets with details of work carried out.

To develop an understanding and knowledge of all Engineering disciplines including Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing.

To learn how to carry out non-invasive building surveys in order to produce basic floor plans. This will sometimes mean overnight stays away (all expenses paid).

All drawing production tasks to be carried out quickly, efficiently and accurately to the highest possible standards.

To be able to answer the office phone when required to pass on calls and messages and be able to meet and communicate with customers in a courteous, friendly and articulate manner when doing so.

Essential to this role is a full driving licence and own car in order to travel to and from surveys. (Expenses paid)

Based in the main office, you will be given on the job training in a structured way using AutoCAD enabling you to provide a true 2D & 3D representation of customer requirements. You will also learn how to carry out basic non-invasive building surveys to enable floor plans to be drawn from these. Upon the successful completion of six months, the candidate will be offered a permanent position. Opportunities to progress in the company are many.

Normal working hours will be 37.5 hours per week from Monday to Thursday, 9.00 – 5.30pm (1 hour for lunch) and Friday 9.00 – 5.00pm (30 mins for lunch) with statutory annual holiday leave.

Starting salary whilst training will be minimum wage hourly rate. Performance related pay increase reviews will be undertaken at 6 months then regularly thereafter.

The successful candidate, once the probation period has finished, will be expected to attend a college evening course in their spare time, to study for formal CAD qualifications such as City & Guilds Certificate in 2D Computer Aided Design Level 2 and 3. The company will give every assistance to allow the candidate to be able to do this and to take any other courses that will benefit their position and personal growth.
